Horbury Primary Academy is a community where children become confident, caring individuals with high aspirations, an enduring enthusiasm for learning and the necessary skills to succeed in life.

The aims of our school

To achieve our vision we aim for all members of our school community to:

We firmly believe that the child should be at the centre of everything we do and our broad, balanced and creative curriculum is tailored to ensure that children are engaged in their learning and enjoy coming to school. Our enthusiastic, caring and professional staff work hard to ensure this happens.

We have created a safe and welcome environment with a culture of learning in which we have high expectations of all children. This enables them to achieve through challenge and support. We want every child to reach their potential and our ultimate aim is to create a lifelong love of learning. We want to give them not only new skills, knowledge and understanding, but also the key learning attributes that will enable them to succeed as they begin their path in life.

As a school our primary aim is that every member of the school community feels valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. We are a caring community, whose values are built upon mutual trust and respect for all. We feel that this will prepare our children to become respectful citizens in the future and that they will continue to show these same open and positive attitudes towards people they meet, regardless of their social or cultural background.

We are immensely proud of our Academy and our students who continue to excel academically and our examination results reflect the high quality teaching and learning that takes place here.

Examination results are, however, only part of our story. We believe that all students are entitled to experience the full breadth of education and this is reflected through our curriculum model that encourages learners to study a broad range of subjects. We have high expectations for our students and support learners through our dedicated ICAN Centres.

We believe that all students are entitled to experience the full breadth of education, experiencing a balanced curriculum that promotes preparedness for, and an appreciation of life in modern Britain.

We are keen that students develop creative, caring and inquisitive minds and strive to achieve the very best; becoming life-long learners. With this in mind we are proud of our sporting, performing and creative arts traditions. All Academy students have the opportunity to travel abroad – be it as part of our Year 7 visit, or as they get older, to countries such as Austria, Italy, Germany and America. We see learning outside the classroom as a key tool to broadening horizons and developing confidence.

We are extremely lucky to benefit from exceptional facilities – a bright, modern building that allows all students regardless of physical needs to access learning.

Our Academy is an active part of the community. We have a strong commitment to seeking and valuing the views of parents and carers who automatically become members of our Academy and Parents’ Association, which shares in Horbury’s development. I believe we can further develop the work of the Academy together, as a beacon of excellence for students at the very heart of its community.

The academy has gained a reputation for excellence that is best evidenced in the outcomes that students achieve across all aspects of academy life. Our strong tradition of success is built on a firm foundation of strong pastoral care, ensuring a climate for learning that is calm, well ordered and secure, and focused on celebrating every achievement and academic success.

Academic excellence, whilst important, is only one part of our story, with a strong tradition of student achievement, celebrated across a wide range of curriculum and enrichment activities in sport, performing and creative arts. There really is an explosion of opportunity at the academy, with students regularly participating in educational visits to complement their work across the curriculum. In addition, to ensure strong personal and social development, all students are also able to participate in a wide range of residential experiences, both within the UK and abroad.

The development of our community is an extremely important feature of our work, and a key priority is to ensure that we have very positive relationships with parents and carers in order to fully support the learning of all young people.

Most recently we have joined together with Horbury Academy, Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy to form the Accord Multi Academy Trust.  This is an exciting development for the Academy and the vision of our equal partnership is that the Accord Multi Academy Trust will enhance both our practice and knowledge of learning across primary and secondary education, whilst also providing access for students and staff to an even better range of opportunities in order to achieve excellence.

Partnership and collaboration is an important aspect of our on-going development and we continue to play a key role alongside our primary pyramid as a member of the Education Ossett Community Trust (EOCT), striving to provide world-class opportunities for the community of Ossett, and supporting young people aged 3 to 18 to develop a lifelong passion for learning, across a range of experiences.

We are a sixth form college, based in Ossett, Wakefield, offering a fully inclusive Post 16 education for students aged 16 – 19 years old. In 2017 we achieved a 100% A-Level pass rate, with the vast majority of students heading to their first choice destination. The courses we run, together with the specialist subject tutors and our great resources, are all aimed at ensuring that each and every one of our students reaches their true potential.

Our strength here at Accord Sixth Form College comes from our focus on you as an individual, delivering a fully inclusive Post 16 education  for all our 16-19 year olds.
